Annual Meeting of IEA Hydrogen TCP at KIT
The annual spring meeting of the IEA Hydrogen TCP, Task 43 - Safety and RCS of Large Scale Hydrogen Energy Applications, took place at the Institute of Thermal Energy Technology and Safety in the week of April 9-12, 2024. Key objective of Task 43 is to characterize key safety and risk control system (RCS) aspects of large scale compressed and liquid hydrogen energy systems and applications. In addition to the joint work on the individual tasks, there were guided tours of the HYKA hydrogen test center and the cryogenic hydrogen test facilities of the H2 group at ITES and a visit to the liquid hydrogen pilot filling station of Daimler Truck and Linde Engineering at the Mercedes-Benz Trucks production site in Wörth am Rhein. The hydrogen department demonstrated its relevance in the research for hydrogen safety and strengthened its international network. The goal of the Task on Hydrogen Safety is to develop effective risk management methodologies and recommendations via case studies and data analysis, as well as targeted information products that will facilitate the accelerated market penetration of large-scale hydrogen energy systems. The 30 participants from Europe, North America and Asia showed considerable progress and thanked the KIT staff for the excellent hosting.
