Experimental investigations: MEKKA laboratory
In the MEKKA laboratory MHD effects of liquid metal flows are experimentally investigated using the fluids NaK, PbLi and GaInSn with the two unique and complementary facilities:
MEKKA und MaPLE
Objectives of both facilities:
- Investigations of liquid metal flows in strong magnetic fields for fusion-relevant parameters in fundamental and complex geometries
- Investigation of coupled multiphysics phenomena such as MHD with heat transfer and buoyancy effects
- Measurement of pressure drop, velocity distribution and heat transfer coefficients
- Generation of data for benchmark studies for code validation
- Development and test of new measuring techniques
